Launched in January 2000, Artcourses.co.uk will help you find arts and crafts courses and holidays in Britain and beyond. Entries are continually being added, so keep visiting us! All directory entries are for 2008.

how to use the directory

You can quickly find a course in a particular area or for a particular subject. The icons in each directory entry show you the level, the subjects taught at that venue, which months the courses run, etc.

Once you've found a course which interests you, make sure you check its availability using the artist's or college's contact details which are shown.

There are three ways to search for courses: by location, subject, or duration:

by location When you're looking for courses in a particular place (choose a London postal district, a British or Irish county or another European country)	find by location
by subject When you're looking for a particular subject, especially the less common ones like printmaking, pottery or basket-making. (Within the subject, entries will appear in location order)	find by subject
by duration When you're looking for a particular type of course, e.g. a painting holiday, or evening classses. (Within this type of course, entries will appear in location order)	find by duration

What is the minimum age for courses at this venue?

14+	In this example, the minimum age for unaccompanied participants is 14. Younger participants may possibly be accepted if accompanied by an adult - check with the artist/college

DURATION: How long are the courses at this venue?

	daytime series - usually spread across a term, e.g. 12 x Friday mornings		evening series - usually spread across a term, e.g. 10 x Monday evenings
	a one-day course or workshop		a 2- or 3-day non-residential course, usually over a weekend
	a non-residential course lasting a week or longer		a 2- or 3-day residential course. Accommodation provided, but sometimes 'tuition only' may be available
	a residential course or holiday lasting a week or longer. Sometimes 'tuition only' may be available		Tailored tuition by arrangement with the artist or correspondence course
